— The use of anonymous sources is the exception, not the rule. Granada Noticias always prefers to attribute information explicitly. We resort to unidentified sources only when the information is clearly in the public interest and it is not possible to obtain it by any other means.
— All information from an anonymous source must be verified with at least one other independent source or with documentation that corroborates it, before being published.
— No serious accusations are published against individuals based exclusively on anonymous sources without the affected person having been given the opportunity to respond.
Internal responsibility
The journalist who receives information in confidence is its custodian and responsible party. They must communicate the source’s identity to the outlet’s director when it is strictly necessary to assess the credibility of the information, with the guarantee that this information will not leave the internal framework of the newsroom.
